What are truffles?
Magic truffles are a species of psilocybin mushrooms. However, technically by law they are not placed in the same category as ‘mushrooms’.
Essentially, truffles are masses of mycelium that contain the two hallucinogenic chemical compounds psilocin and psilocybin. These potent spores provide intense psychedelic effects to those who consume them. Since they host the same psychoactive compounds as magic mushrooms, their effects and benefits are very comparable.
Up until October of 2007, magic mushrooms were legal in the Netherlands. After the prohibition of magic mushrooms was announced, growers had to find another way to sustain themselves. This led them towards a new operation; magic truffles. Since then, the market for psychoactive fungi skyrocketed.
In more recent dates, a large loophole has been found in the EU law, meaning these magical little spores are legal for sale and consumption across the whole of Europe.
Just like traditional magic mushrooms, truffles can provide a wide range of benefits whether taken in larger doses or microdoses. The positive benefits of psychoactive mushrooms are becoming more known.
Since psilocybin mushrooms have been outlawed, magic truffles are a fantastic alternative to those who seek the therapeutic benefits of magic mushrooms. When taken in larger doses, truffles can give a very similar high to magic mushrooms. They affect/heighten all 5 senses and cause intense hallucinogenic and psychedelic effects. Both small and high doses can result in an extremely positive outcome.
Magic truffles grow below the ground and must be dug up when harvested. When dried, truffles vary in size and retain a small, bubbly, and condensed shape. Since truffles have low moisture levels between 5-10%, they have a hard and dense feel to them.
What are magic mushrooms?
Psilocybin mushrooms are most commonly referred to as magic mushrooms or shrooms. Psilocybin mushrooms are an informal group of fungi that contain psilocybin, which eventually turns into psilocin! There are many different species of psychedelic mushrooms that contain psilocybin.
Magic mushrooms have been used by Indigenous cultures and religions for many years, and they are still used in spiritual context today. Magic mushrooms have been depicted in ancient stone art in Europe and Africa. However, they are most famously portrayed in Pre-Columbian sculptures and glyphs that can be found in North, Central, and South America.
Magic mushrooms can hold a heap of benefits for the mind and soul. When taken, psychedelic effects occur, bending reality and your experience of it. Although psilocybin mushrooms are illegal or controlled in most places around the globe, the world is waking up to its positive benefits. Slowly but surely, the awareness around magic mushrooms and what they have to offer us is becoming the norm. Positive outcome can occur whether taken in a larger dosage or a microdoses.
Magic mushrooms grow above the ground and can be harvested by hand. Since they host higher levels of moisture, they are a lot more flexible and soft than truffles are, even after they have been harvested and dried.
Differences
Here is a list of some of the key differences between magic mushrooms and magic truffles:
- Truffles have more legal leeway
- They have clear physical differences
- They both require different levels of moisture and nutrients
- Estimating the potency can be done more accurately with truffles
- Their growth begins the same but ends differently
Similarities
Here is a list of some of the key similarities between magic mushrooms and magic truffles:
- They both contain psilocybin and psilocin
- They can both be grown naturally or in a controlled environment
- They both hold very similar therapeutic effects
- Their psychedelic effects are very similar
- The same levels of psilocybin potency can be found in both
The bottom line
Essentially, both of these natural remedies are very similar in comparison. However, I have personally determined this with both an analytical and opinionated approach.
If you live in Europe and you are wanting to take magic mushrooms or are looking to microdose magic mushrooms but do not want to risk the legal consequences… Then magic truffles are going to be your new best friend!
If you are not ready to embark on an intense psychedelic journey, then microdosing magic truffles is a great natural remedy that can provide a lot of benefits.
Magic truffles are also a more practical option for those wanting to try microdosing as their potency is more consistent and easy to estimate than traditional magic mushrooms. As always, do your own research and never stop educating yourself on topics like this. The most effective form of harm reduction is quality education.
